Tip # 1 – Spend More Time Practicing
If you start slowing down or you can’t seem to catch your breath just a few minutes into a match, you probably aren’t practicing enough. The more you practice on the ping pong tables, the more stamina you’ll build up. Try to get into the habit of practicing at least once every other day. You’ll notice that most of the professional table tennis athletes practice for several hours each day! While you don’t have to spend such a large amount of time at the tables, you should make it a point to practice at least once every other day. Doing so will help you tone your skills and build up your stamina.
Tip # 2 – Cardiovascular Exercise
Cardiovascular exercise refers to any type of workout or activity that increases your heart rate. You may not realize it, but playing table tennis is a form of cardio because your heart is racing. If you are looking to improve your body’s stamina, you should try to add more cardio workouts into your routine. Most health experts recommend at least 20-30 minutes of cardio per day.
So, what kind of cardio workouts can you do? The sky is really the limit when it comes to cardio. You can go jogging, running, do jumping jacks, basketball, kayaking or bicycling just to name a few. Try to incorporate at least 30 minutes of cardio into each day for optimal results.
Tip # 3 – Avoid Heavy Meals Before Games
Some people like to eat big meals and snacks before playing a game of table tennis to give them energy. Nine out of ten times, though, it has the opposite effect of slowing them down. You have to remember that eating a lot of food forces your digestive system to work in overtime. While it’s try to process and digest this food, your body will likely work and function slower, resulting in less stamina.
